METROPOLIANATE OF AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND

The issue of the completion of legal proceedings in Australia is a constant concern of our Metropolitanate, one which we have at present started to actively implement. At the convocations of the Executive Board and Assembly of the Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand (03 to 05 September 2015) in Melbourne, the official position of the Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand of the Serbian Orthodox Church was formulated as such that the Metropolitanate would not initiate new proceedings or continue with procedures that were stayed until the handing down of the judgment of the Supreme Court of New South Wales and adoption of a Scheme regarding the use of the New Kalenich Monastery; except in the case of an appeal, in order to defend our court victory in the process of restoring the New Kalenich Monastery to the Serbian Orthodox Church.

The Holy Archangel Michael parish celebrated the Sunday of Orthodoxy with the procession of the Holy Icons. It was wonderful to see so many faithful attending the Holy Liturgy, celebrated by the Reverend Presbyter Veselin Svorcan and assisted by the Reverend Deacon Miladin Tripic, affirming the Orthodox Faith on the First Sunday of Great Lent.

First Sunday of the Great and Holy lent, 20 March 2016, the day when we celebrate the Triumph of Orthodoxy over the iconoclasts, was the second day in a row in Cabramatta when we needed two Chalices to commune all the faithful. The Holy Liturgy was celebrated by very reverend protopresbyter-stavrophors Djuro Djurdjevic and Nenad Djurasinovic; whilst Fr. Nemanja Mrdjenovic was hearing confessions from the early morning until the beginning of Communion, from hundreds of faithful who were preparing for the Holy Eucharist.

On Saturday 12 March 2016, His Holiness Patriarch Irinej of the Serbian Orthodox Church presided over the Divine Liturgy at St Luke the Apostle Serbian Orthodox Church Liverpool NSW. Co-celebrating with His Holiness were His Eminence Amphilochius, Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, His Grace Irinej, Bishop of Australia and New Zealand, Serbian Orthodox Church, His Grace Bishop George of Canberra, Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and clergy from the Serbian and Russian Orthodox Churches.

On Thursday 10 March, as part of His pastoral visit to Australia, His Holiness the Archbishop of Pech, Metropolitan of Belgrade-Karlovci and Serbian Patriarch Kyr Irinej visited Pantanassa Monastery. His Holiness was accompanied by His Eminence Dr Amfilohije, Archbishop of Cetinje, Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral and Exarch of the Throne of Pech, Bishop Irinej the Serbian Orthodox Bishop of the Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand, Protopresbyter Stojadin Pavlovic, Director of the Patriarchal Administerative Board, as well as Deacon Aleksandar Sekulic, Secretary of the Patriarchal Cabinet.

During their canonical visitation to the Metropolitanate of Australia and New Zealand, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej and His Eminence Metropolitan of Montenegro Amfilohije, escorted by Very Reverend protopresbyter-stavrofor Fr. Stojadin Pavlovic, director of the Patriarchal head office, in spite of having a very exhausting schedule managed to find time and strength to pay a short visit to St George Historic Cathedral in Cabramatta.
