The Australian Freedom Network is a reflection of the Global Freedom Network, which was initiated by Andrew Forrest and was signed by global faith leaders on 02 December 2014. The Global Freedom Network is founded on the premise that religious faith can be a powerful motivating force to inspire individual and community action both spiritually and practically.

The Australian Freedom Network was launched at Parliament House in Canberra on 02 December 2015, International Day for the Abolition of Slavery.

His Grace Bishop Irinej noted:
"Created in the image and likeness of God, every human being is endowed with the unequivocal gift of freedom.
As responsible stewards of creation, we are all summoned to safeguard this unique gift of human dignity which represents for us a hope filled anthropology.
Slavery is the antithesis of freedom and the annihilation of dignity which leads to hopelessness and destitution – a living death.

True, responsible freedom is the ability to live life.
Let us, therefore, endeavour toward the restoration of humanity in Christ and end slavery."
